How to play the game:
`Sir Guy Gallant & The Deadly Warning' is a mystery/adventure game set in
mid-17th century England, on the property of Gallant Hall. The player takes on
the role of Sir Guy Gallant, a cavalier-knight of that era. As Sir Guy you must
discover clues as to who killed your father, the late Sir James. These clues
are scattered about the scene of the crime (Gallant Hall). Some clues may be
obvious, others may not, while others may just be thrown in to put you on a
false scent, or maybe not. It's up to you to decide! Once all of the
appropriate clues have been found you will know who the killer is. Then of
course you can solve the mystery! But that's not all!

To get through the game you must enter COMMANDS for the game to follow.
They should be typed in this format:
[VERB] [NOUN] [PREPOSITION] [NOUN]
For Example:
EXAMINE THE RING {This would give you info about a ring if it
were present, carried, or worn by the player.}
EXAMINE RING {Could also be used if you want to save typing!}
Should there be more than one kind of the same noun (i.e., a gold ring, and
a brass ring) you could use this command:
EXAMINE THE BRASS RING {This would give you info about the brass
ring only.}
If you do not specify which noun (i.e., gold or brass) and there are more than
one of that type item present, the game will ask you which one you mean. All
you need do is type in the describing ADJECTIVE and press [ENTER].

Other simple command examples are:
UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE SILVER KEY
NORTH
GET ALL {Allows you to pick up all carriable items in a room,
depending upon how much you can carry}
If you want to make the most of the number of turns you have in the game,
I suggest compound commands using AND or THEN, punctuation marks [,] or [;].
For Example:
UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE SILVER KEY THEN OPEN IT
CLOSE THE DOOR AND LOCK IT WITH THE SILVER KEY
EXAMINE THE SILVER PIN, PUT ON THE SILVER PIN
GET THE TORCH AND LIGHT IT WITH THE MATCHES; CLIMB THE ROPE THEN
NORTH, SOUTH AND DOWN

If you have trouble getting the game to accept your commands. Simplify
your sentences as much as possible. You shouldn't have much problem if your
commands are clearly worded and correctly spelled. Some game creators think
that figuring out the correct commands to use in the game is part of the fun!
I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!!
I've played a few of these type games. Typing in command after command
trying to get the game to accept one of them, became so frustrating and tiring
to my fingers that most of the time I just gave up! To this end I decided that
I would include a complete list of all VERBS that are used in my games. It is
located at the end of these instructions. So once you know what action (VERB)
to take, adding the nouns are no problem (since they are stated in the game).
Function & Cursor keys:
The function keys (f1 thru f10) are set up to take the place of the most
commonly used VERBS in the game. Also, the numeric keypad and cursor keys are
set up to take the place of the directions used in the game (i.e., North,
Northeast, etc.).

use them and with what NOUN!

In addition these verbs when given as a command:
HELP This will give you a hint if one is available.
SCORE Summarizes the progress you've made in the game so far.
INVENTORY Displays a list of all items being, carried or worn.
BRIEF Gives only brief descriptions of a location.
VERBOSE Gives a full description of a location.
LIST EXITS Shows a list of all {VISIBLE} exits from your current location.
There may be other less obivious exits that it does not show.
SAVE GAME Saves the game you are playing on disk. When restored with the
RESTORE GAME command you will be in the exact room where you
left off, with same score, etc.

RESTORE GAME Restores a previously saved game from disk.
LOOK Gives you a full description of your current location.
SCRIPT Prints out everything show on the computer screen to a printer
(using the LP1 port). You could have a hard printed copy of an
entire game session if you wanted!
UNSCRIPT Stops all game moves from being printed.
QUIT Exits the game. Shows the score, number of locations visited,
etc. Saves disk space because some temporary game files are
erased.
There are two different types of game responses used in this mystery/
adventure. The usual ones, what a narrator of a story might say, and those
that are set off by ``quotation'' marks. These last are what Sir Guy and other
characters in the game would say in response to certain commands & situations.
